Robin Gottfried grew up in Washington Heights, New York City where he graduated from the High School of Music & Art in 1970.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He immediately started his professional career as a singer\/songwriter performing in bands that played all over the Northeast. Robin now performs in the Burlington, VT area where he has lived since 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Why Robin bothers to produce yet another<\/em> album is mystifying to those of us falling far behind in creative output.  This album is a keeper.  “The Things You Said” features a pot pourri of passionate, emotional, pissed off and highly observational songs all replete with Robin’s gift for a very convincing vocal, and a high level of arranging songcraft in other instrumentation, back ground vocals and stellar guitar work.  Recommended.  Don’t settle for national and international pap, or AI produced wanna be stupor.  Have a thorough listen to “The Things You Said” – you will be pleased you did.’

One would be hard-pressed to find many Vermont musicians with a bigger catalog than Burlington singer-songwriter and guitarist Robin Gottfried. Originally from New York City, Gottfried moved to Vermont in 1978 and has been part of the local scene since, releasing a steady stream of blues and soft-rock records, including his most recent and 13th album, The Things You Said<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of the album serves as an extended love letter to Gottfried\u2019s wife, Zo\u00eb Hardy, to whom he dedicates the record in the liner notes. That loving theme gives the record a sweet, romantic sheen, especially on the title track, with its smooth AM Gold swagger, and \u201cTry Me On.\u201d The latter carries shades of nightclub jazz and \u201980s Top 40 balladry, sung by keyboardist Billie Fountain, who, along with drummer Ian Koeller, are the only other musicians on\u00a0The Things You Said.\u00a0<\/em>Gottfried handles everything else, including mixing the record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s an unabashed cheese factor to much of Gottfried\u2019s music, particularly on tracks such as \u201cGive to Me.\u201d But one person\u2019s Velveeta is another\u2019s burrata, and Gottfried has his sound down to a science. The Things You Said<\/em> isn\u2019t breaking any molds, but it\u2019s a strong display from a Green Mountain veteran who shows no sign of slowing down.
